Alexander's First Birthday

Of course I was super excited for Alexander's first birthday! I just couldn't wait to spoil my little man. It seemed as if I planned the day for a whole month. We did try to keep the cost of his birthday down and make it just simple fun. So I just bought a few simple decorations and made Alexander cupcakes for desert. Scott helped with the cupcakes and decorations and I was super grateful. I decided to go with a Sesame Street theme since Alexander loves Sesame Street so much. I really loved how the cupcakes turned out! We just used oreo and chocolate chip cookies for the mouths and m&ms for the eyes and noses. Then frosted them. I decided to just make Alexander's cupcake have frosting so he wouldn't choke on the cookies and candy. We decorated the house and made the cupcakes while Alexander was sleeping and the morning of his birthday he got really excited when he came downstairs and saw all the fun stuff. Below are some pictures of our decor and cupcakes:

For his first birthday, we took Alexander to the Zoo! It was his first time at the zoo and he absolutely loved it. We invited Amy, Russ, Diane and Alliyah to join us, and we all had a lot of fun. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay too long due to all the birthday fun we had planned back at the house, and him needing a nap. It was still a great time and Alexander loved it. He even waved at the chimpanzees! Below are some pictures of our fun at the zoo:

After the zoo fun, we came back to our place, and Scott's grandparent's, Jim and Janine, joined us for lunch and presents. I decided to make Alexander and the family spaghetti, since it is Alexander's new favorite food. So I made spaghetti, garlic bread and salad. We all enjoyed it very much! Below are some pictures of the birthday boy enjoying his spaghetti lunch:

After lunch, it was time for presents! Alexander got super spoiled by his grandparents, great grandparents and aunt! And I have to say I didn't mind in the least! Since we were planning a trip to Washington the next week, we tried not to go too crazy on gifts. I even managed to pick up a few cute things at the DI a few days before his birthday. Alexander loved all his new toys and especially loved opening the presents. It was really cute. Below are some pictures of his gifts and the family having fun:

After presents, it was the moment we had all been waiting for: Alexander's first taste of cake! I have to admit that he didn't quite perform the way we thought he would. Maybe he got too full on spaghetti, or maybe that bright colored frosting scared him. Whatever it was, he would NOT eat the cake. He touched it a little here and there, but he wouldn't eat it. So Scott tried to force a little in his mouth, when that didn't work, Amy opened her mouth really wide and made a funny sound and she snuck some in his mouth! After the first taste though, Alexander was hooked and dug in and ate it until it was all gone. At least he enjoyed it once he finally tasted it. Below are his cupcake eating pictures and a few more fun ones:

Well, I know that was a ton of pictures, but I just couldn't help it! I had to record every single moment of his first birthday! I think it was a success and that he had a great time! It is crazy to believe my little boy is already a year old. It seems as if the time has flown by much faster than I could have imagined. I plan to keep savoring every moment! Well, that is all for now, tune in next time for our Washington trip.
