Looking Back: The Wedding: Part 5: The Washington Reception

Virginia really wanted to have a reception in Washington for all her family and friends who wouldn't be able to make it to Utah. They found this cute place, not far from their apartment for the reception. It was a bit tiny though, so getting ready was a bit tricky. Virginia had to get her hair and make-up done in a coat closet. Although it was small, it was still so wonderful. Here's a a picture of Virginia getting ready:

Lynda Cherry helped Virginia to plan what the reception would look like. Since Scott and Virginia were living in Washington, Virginia primarily put Scott's Mom in charge of the Utah reception, and Virginia was in charge of the Washington reception. Lynda helped Virginia to pick out decor and was in charge of all the flowers. Scott, Virginia, Lynda, and a few other friends came early the day of the reception to get everything decorated for the reception. Virginia's family helped provide the food. Everything turned out gorgeous! Here are some pictures of the decorations at the reception:

Before the wedding, Virginia had created a guestbook that was basically a scrapbook of Scott and Virginia's engagement, with spots to add wedding pictures later. It turned out better than she expected, and Scott absolutely loved it. Here are some pictures of the guestbook:

The cake was a very important part of the reception for Virginia. She had asked her friend, Kara Beal, to do the cake for her reception. Kara had only taken a few cake decorating classes, but did such an amazing job! Virginia had been a Nanny for the Beal family before her mission. Here are some pictures of the cake being put together, and of the Beals:

After everything got all set up, we stood to greet a few people as they arrived, and mostly just had a blast that evening. We were able to visit with our friends and family that came, and just enjoy ourselves. Virginia loved this reception so much because it felt so laid back and comfortable. Here are some photos that were taken with family and early in the evening:

After a period of greeting, Virginia tossed the bouquet, and Scott tossed the bootineer. Here are some pictures of that:

After the flower tossing, Scott and Virginia did the toast (using sparkling cider of course). They had Uncle Ed say a few words and then they toasted sparkling cider. Here are some pictures of that:

After the toast, Virginia took a moment to tell everyone a little bit about the cake, and why they chose the Cinderella and Prince Charming cake topper, and then they cut the cake. Here are some of those pictures:

After the cake, we had the first dance, which was to the song "When You Say Nothing At All." Everyone loved the dancing in Washington, just as much as they did in Utah. One funny fact to note is that wedding dresses are not made for dancing. In both Utah and Washington, when Scott tried the dance move he calls "The Super Dip" Virginia's dress came unbustled and she had to slow dance for the rest of the song. The move requires both her feet to come off the ground, so it must have been just the right angle to make the dress come unbustled. It was fun nonetheless! Here are some pictures from the first dance:

After the first dance, we did the father/daughter dance, and then invited everyone else to join us on the dance floor. Here are some pictures of the rest of the dancing:

After all the dancing was done, it was time to clean-up and say good-bye to all our wedding fun. But somehow, something felt like it was missing, and that something was Virginia's Mom. Virginia's Mom was unable to get the night off to attend the reception, so Scott, Virginia, and Scott's parents headed to the Hyatt, where Virginia's Mom was working, to surprise her. Here are some pictures of that visit:

Then, the couple finally made it back home to their apartment and Scott carried Virginia into their home all romantic like. Here is the picture of them entering their new home, and beginning their joyous life together:

Well, that concludes the wedding portion of our story! Almost two years later, the couple is still crazy in love and feel like newlyweds, hopefully that feeling never goes away. Tune in next time, for more memories. One of these days we will make it to what's happening currently in our lives. Thanks for being patient as we recount two years of memories together!
